5 Fun ways to keep your pet busy at home

keep your pet busy at home

Being unable to go out means your doggo is probably missing out on his daily walks. And, walks aren’t just physically stimulating for your pets, but mentally important as well: stopping to sniff, chase, dig and explore is imperative to keep your dog’s brain working properly.

If they can’t go out and about, don’t panic. There are plenty of ways to keep your pet busy at home.

Try these tricks on for size:

Play the Shell Game

Let your dog watch as you place a treat under one of three cups. You then shuffle the cups around and encourage them to ‘find the treat.’ It’s great for their problem-solving skills.

Teach Your Dog to Clean Up His Toys

No, we’re not mad. It’s possible to teach your dog to clean up after himself. If your dog already knows “drop it”, have them pick up a toy and give them their “drop it” command once they’re standing over the toy container. Praise them like crazy, with lots of treats and keep doing it until he’s a seasoned cleaning pro!

Stuff a Kong or apple

Stuffed Kongs are great at relieving dog boredom! Keep your dog busy for a while by stuffing a Kong with peanut butter, frozen broth or treats. If you don’t have a King, you can get the same effect by putting peanut butter inside a cored-out apple.

Teach Your Dog a New Trick

Yes, old dogs can learn new tricks, actually. Can your dog weave through your legs or jump through a hoop? There’s always something new to teach your pooch! Get started with these: 52 tricks to teach your dog.
